Hey, chill. [ she says to the goose, distracted. holds her hands up in surrender like don't attack. it's sitting on stuff... is it THEIR stuff. can she see her fists in there. ]

Some birds get really territorial. It's probably pissed off that we're near its space...

[ can kiruko get a look at the papers on this desk, though? are there any items on or in the desk? ]

[ hmm. looking at the person behind the desk as best she can. probably on her tippy toes. ]

Um... Excuse us. Can you move your bird, please? Just for a second.

[ he is going to look around at what has to be projections... ]

Anyone else get the feeling the fake spooks are waiting for something?

[ It is in fact their stuff! The fists are egg-shaped. Perhaps it is hoping to hatch them and become a proud papa. It likely means that it is also sitting on the guns, too. Vi holds up her hands, and the goose stares her down. ]

Honk?

[ A questionable honk this time…

Kiruko can look at the papers on the desk! It appears to be… files? They are files of the vacationers they’ve all met so far out in Key Nueve. Each file has a photo, the person’s age, and the person’s height. (Basically what’s on our stats chart.) There are also a few notes scribbled on these files. Would they like to look for anything in particular? They can also find a few other stray items on the desk such as feather quills, jewels, bones, etc. Neat! Also some stray coins? Those might come in handy if you feel like stealing from someone’s desk.

There isn’t really a person behind the desk for Miyu to speak to, but there is a ghostly shade looming around the throne. It stares at her, looks at the bird… and screams. The sound is more like a startled squeak than a real scream, but the answer is apparently no. It does not control the bird.

The “projections” continue going about their day, some of them speaking to each other in hushed tones. One of them runs right through Nine, chilling him to the core. Brr! They also knock him backwards, hard enough he may need to adjust his footing so he doesn’t fall. Whoops! ]

ok well. she wants them, so. the others get ignored for now until they are in danger… she stares at the goose for a long moment, hands still up, and then says: ]

Not gonna hurt you, buddy. But you have my stuff, so - wanna trade? You hungry?

[ is there anything she can find to feed this guy… ]

[ kiruko will try to find the files for all of us who are here now... maybe as a sneaky way to find out everyone's names if they're on there. but also, to look at the notes.

also looks at the bones on the desk. ]

... Think it likes bones?

[ a startled quiet scream when the shade screams. OKAY!!!! NEVER MIND!!!!!!!! ]

Um... B-bird's like bread... and stealing hats... and stealing fishing poles... and stealing fish...

Oi! It's call personal space! [ he's tempted to go fistfight a ghost, but miyu screaming has him ignoring the spooks again. ]

What happened to you?

[ The goose does not seem to hunger… you may try the bones if you wish, but it continues to stare at Vi. One of its heads is watching Kiruko and Miyu at the desk, and the third is keeping an eye on Nine. It will let her approach? It almost seems like it wants to be approached.

Kiruko can look at the files for the four people here! They will find the following:

Violet, age 22. Jackass. Temperamental. Stubborn. Observant.

Kiruko, age 19 (?). Survivor. Deceptive. Delusional. Creative.

Nine, age 17. Brash. Dim-witted. Confrontational. Honest.

Miyu, age 15. Forgettable. Gloomy. Anxious. Loyal.

That’s… nice. Thanks, whoever wrote these things.

All four of them also seem to have a running tally of some kind, varying in different numbers. But they are all categorized under the same thing: Failures.

The ghosts seem to be going toward the eastern hall rather than the west. Perhaps there’s something down that way they find interesting, but you can always explore there later. ]

she also startles at the scream, and checks to make sure that miyu is okay, but once she sees that its just a startle she turns back to the goose.

… well okay, she will move forward when the goose looks like it wants her to? maybe it is a nice goose. she will offer a hand out to let it uh. sniff her if it can sniff. watch it bite her hand off. ]

[ she doesn't think she'll be able to help much with this bird so she is inching towards the eastern hall, actually. not just fully wandering off, but trying to see if she can get an idea of what might be down there? ]

[ The goose immediately drops one of its heads into Vi's hands. It simply wanted to be pet? Please be nice to it, it is a good goose. ]

Honk!

[ Loud, but happy. The goose shuffles forward, revealing the two guns also in its nest. Pet it! Love it!

Over toward the east will be the scent of something delicious and warm, and there's the sound of chattering and more voices. Even though they don't retreat that far to the east, it's easy to see there are three doors this way. Most of the ghosts in the vicinity are disappearing through the left and right entryways, but the center is the largest and most empty, an enticing light glowing around it. ]

Whoa, whoa, okay. Pipe down, my ears are ringing.

[ bro this goose is now her BEST FRIEND

she laughs a bit, and gives the goose a scrub down. pets it like a dog, and also gives the others a sort of meaningful look?? if you want your guns, you should go get them.

ig this is just goose quest now for vi… ]

[ slowly... trying to walk around the goose. closer to the guns...

is one of its heads still following kiruko, or is it occupied with vi? ]

[ to nine: ] We shouldn't split up unarmed.

[ but probably once they are armed she won't want to split up either? well, whatever. she stays where she is for now. she doesn't want to startle the goose because birds usually hate her on sight.

then, to kiruko: ] Um, can you grab mine for me? I don't want to overwhelm it... [ she is afraid of a cucco attack. ]

he doesn't have any weapons, so he will come over to check out the desk, while they try to get their guns. what kind of jewelry and is there anything special about the coins? ]

[ The goose is thrilled. Its heads thrash a little, deeply pleased by the pets and attention enough that even if its heads are watching the others, it’s easy enough to snatch the guns. They might notice some other items in the goose’s nest, too, but those probably don’t belong to them. They should leave those alone.

The jewelry on the desk are just gemstones and some gold and silver. There’s nothing special about the coins, they just look like currency.

You should probably move before the goose gets sad as it realizes you’re leaving. ]

[ she will pet the goose for a bit while the others steal their items back… grab her fists for her!! what are the other items, do they look useful? can vi grab them without angering her new bestie?

otherwise she can give the goose one more pet and then try to head off towards that shiny nice place. that seems promising. ]

[ kiruko's taking the guns... checking the pistol and then holstering it, and tossing miyu's gun to her.

and... okay, grabbing the fists too. they're heavy and have to be carried in both arms, but it's manageable. time to get away from the goose! ]

[ The other items include a rifle that probably looks familiar to Vi, actually, given the familiar crest on the butt of it, and a large rapier with a gold hilt Nine may recognize. More weapons? You can probably leave those behind, surely…

Now that everyone has what they need and they’re moving onward, it’s time to duckling your way toward the east and to the three doors!

As you approach these doors, you will be gripped with a sudden reminder of why you were trying to leave in the first place. You aren’t meant to stay here, are you? You’re better than the confines of death’s house.

You have people to see and reunite with. You have goals, dreams, and in some cases, revenge to deliver. How can you do this if you linger?

It all leads back to the same idea: you must escape. No matter how many times you fail.
