He doesn’t worry about Nine, because as he throws the trident someone else materializes and catches it, holding it firmly in the middle before snapping it in half. ]

the hydra's appearance gets her to yelp, and she has about four seconds to say something that sounds like what the fuck?? before a thug sucker punches her across the face and sends her to the ground.
give her a second, she's already trying to stand back up, adjusting her fists, spitting blood to the side. she's gotta get in there, she has to try and defend the other three. she'll try to knock the thugs down with a leg sweep, taking the multitude of punches and possible broken bones.
is there a way out of here? or does she just have to fight for her life? ]
[ kiruko's back up, wobbly and with a bloody nose, whirling to look at maru as he charges at miyu.
there's some distance now. it should be enough. kiruko nocks another arrow, aims at maru, and fires. even if he's a moving target, and even if the sudden appearance of this fuckass hydra should be startling, kiruko's focus doesn't waver.
that said, the second the arrow is loosed, kiruko is scrambling away to try to flee from these hydra heads. what the fuck!!! ]
[ miyu is focusing mostly on keeping this rocket launcher NOT pointed at vi thank you! she's got good trigger discipline so she will do her very best to not shoot her.
but she's observant and aware of her surroundings. when she sees kiruko aiming she tries to keep maru between them to make it an easier shot. ]
[ he's going to freeze at seeing the woman breaking his trident. ]
Mother? [ he knows it's fake. he knows that's not really her, but when you spend this current lifetime and many, many past ones you can not recall following her every order well... it's hard to want to fight.

[ he'll turn his attention to them, fully intending on ignoring Mother for them, but that is also futile because they flash to his sibling's faces and they are crying out in agony.
go ahead and munch on him! he does have his white jacket to take the hit at least but yeah he's useless this turn. ]
[ You really, really should have read the book, probably. But it’s probably fine? It’s probably fine because you have items to help protect you, a little. Vi’s punching and punching and punching, burns littering any exposed skin as she takes out the thugs, and as she’s punched in the face there’s a deep, harsh burn settling in. Enjoy matching with Zuko, a man you will never meet.
She knocks several of the thugs over, and they lose their footing as they fall, clubbing each other down on the way. It gives her a little breathing room, at least.
Kiruko’s up and the arrow flies. Maru seems to sense it though and bends at an almost unnatural angle to avoid it. The good thing is the arrow hits a hydra! The bad news is its skull seems to pop off, launching toward Kiruko like a projectile. But on the inside there appears to be some sort of purple-ish diamond, similar in shape to the boons they’d seen before. It will smack right into Kiruko though, pinning them to a nearby wall momentarily even as Maru turns and runs back in that direction.
Miyu’s being soooo good! She’s being so good? Too back there’s the sound of a gunshot, and a bullet whizzes just barely over her head. Observant as she is, she’ll notice familiar fake earsies sticking out from around a corner, gun raised and aimed at her. ]
”Target acquired. So cute…”
[ Another bullet is fired, though she quickly turns and also shoots at Nine. Luckily, Mother seems to decide she’s not having it? And instead she steps in and takes this bullet for him as a hydra’s head stretches, neck elongating enough to bite down harshly right on his arm, digging in and trying to pull it off. Yikes. ]
this is going south so quickly. vi can't even focus well enough on the chaos to try and figure out where to go, but once she's back up and standing, she rubs her face against her shoulder, winces, and rolls her arms in place. deep breath.
she'll go to try and pry the diamond thing off of kiruko to get kiruko off the wall, heaving with all her strength. maru's coming for them but she figures she doesn't need to deal with him so long as she can get kiruko back into the game.
the pride thing is something she's considering using, too. first thing's first - she's going to help where she can. ]
[ honestly, pretty ic of maru to dodge that. unfortunately, this sucks!! the skull pins kiruko to the wall, who gasps and squirms until vi comes by with the assist. there's a grateful nod at vi, but then...
with the skull pried away, kiruko's arms are free enough to, with great reluctance, shove one into that sharp-toothed maw and reach for the diamond, claiming the boon even as the arm comes back bloodied.
then, kiruko loads the bow with its last arrow and fires it up into the air... raining poison lightning bolts on the enemies. ]
[ miyu was not that startled by the horrible hydra, but is startled enough at the bunny girl to completely fail to do anything about being shot. luckily she's invincible to bullets so that's probably fine? just hurts more than usual for some reason. don't worry about it.
she doesn't know why miyako would shoot at her unless she's meant to shoot back, at the moment. and she doesn't think a rocket launcher would do any harm to anyone else with a halo. so she's firing for the first familiar face she sees. this seems insane, but it's just that this is the person she doesn't expect to be able to hurt? are we training?? is this a test??? ]
[ mother getting shot is enough to knock something back into him. his right arm is grabbed and the thing is trying to yank his arm off? ]
You bitch, that hurts! [ bringing his left arm back and he is going to slam his fist into not!king's face! he knows it's not his brother, but it still feels bad ]
[ You did good, Vi. You helped… you were able to help Kiruko pry the skull off, even if it’s a heavy weight. Maru does immediately slam into her though, knocking her away from Kiruko with a quick punch. Fists? Fists.

The thugs aren’t all completely gone, so they still swipe and swing, attempting to knock Miyu off her feet while she fires a rocket launcher in Miyako’s direction. She might feel a bit of a sharp burning as another bullet fires back… but she’s probably fine. Nine punches King’s face and he’s met with hard, sharp bone, the skull splintering into his hand even as the teeth clamp and shake him around. Mother does nothing to assist, merely watching and waiting to see if he will fall in battle.
Kiruko manages to infuse the arrows with the boon, a gift that allows poison and lightning to marry together in a barrage of arrows. Several of them hit their targets and the thugs hiss and steam, bubbling and exploding around them like miniature volcanos. Several of the hydra heads swoop and dive, snapping and attempting to crush them, but the arrows make their marks in other heads, too.
An arrow sinks into Maru’s arm, and he looks at it and frowns at Kiruko. ]
”Hey.” [ He almost looks like he’s pouting as he rips it out, turning to fling it right back at them.
And just when you thought things were starting to get under control… something begins to play. Two of the hydra heads begin to lower, and seated on the top of them are a girl and a man behind her with his hand on her shoulder. It’s the girl who looks down upon them, head tilted almost listlessly as she speaks, twirling a small gadget in her hand. ]
”Well. This all went to shit.”

now, she stumbles backwards after the skeleton gets tossed, and then stares at the hydra. it actually just absolutely stops her in her tracks as she tries to figure out what she's seeing, because that cannot be who she thinks it is. their last meeting was... less than ideal, and she's almost just re-living that little sequence in the minute that she gets caught up.
but more than anything, behind her? that's her target. the man with his hand on her shoulder, that's the problem, he's always been the problem. it doesn't matter that he's gone, it doesn't matter if she's already done this song and dance, she can't give up, not really. maybe if she can just get his influence out of her brain, she'll... ]

don't just focus on your enemy. whoever can use their surroundings to their advantage wins. that's the way of the world, and it's no different here. so while tossing aside the bow and drawing the gun instead, pointing it at "maru," kiruko activates the "pride" boon.
this will create the opportunity they need. they can still all escape from this. ]
[ oh no more people she's not sure she has permission to fight. again, it seems safest to just keep focusing on miyako so she doesn't accidentally hurt someone else's friend. though she is noting that man seems like an acceptable target...
except these mob enemies are fucking her up because she's a sniper who's used to being ignored. what the fuck is melee! she's got no real strength to fight back against them so she's knocked down... but then scrambling up and away, putting her focus on dodging and escaping these enemies rather than fighting back, trying to get an angle to fire on miyako again. ]
he'll curse under his breath at the skull bits digging into his skin. nine is going to spare a quick glance to see what is going on with their leader and why she's all yelling, but he can't do shit about that with king still hanging on. ]
Get the hell off of me! [ just going bringing his hand back again to slam into the skull once again. let go! ]
[ Vi with her boosted agility scarf GETS ON THE HYDRA'S BACK, but Silco simply pulls Jinx with him onto another hydra. Vi can probably leap across the heads to follow, but now that she's up here she may hear a faint ticking noise.
Down below, Kiruko activates Pride, but even with the boost of +2 the 5... well, given Maru, this seems to work enough to redirect his attention to Miyako. He charges at her, tackling her with a swing of his fists as her gun points upward suddenly and catching him in the shoulder. With the two of them distracted, it leaves Kiruko and Miyu to the thinning swarm of monsters that swing with hands and clubs. Most of the hydra heads are now interested in bucking Vi off, giving Silco a little step ladder to walk away from her.
Below, King continues to attack Nine, even with the pained noises each time the skull's beaten down. It cracks, little thin fracture lines taking over as it shivers and shakes.
Or maybe that's the whole chamber shaking? And above the cacophony of noise... the chains rattle again, this time drawing closer.
[ forgive me for making a reference from like a decade ago but not the mysterious ticking noise
she's single-mindedly trying to get to silco, but the ticking does actually catch her attention. she pauses where she's climbing up the necks, clinging tightly so it can't throw her off, and frantically looks around for what she ASSUMES is a bomb. she knows her sister, unfortunately. her only hope is it isn't that fuckass monkey.
there's something in her that struggles on which name to use, on which she's settled on. her sister is gone, right, that's what she decided, but still -- still. ]
Powder! [ she shouts, over the rumbling of the chains. ] Powder, just - come here! Come here!
[ our characters don't know how badly i rolled... maybe the boon was just kind of mid. but it does get maru running off to go fight a bunny girl. leaving his back exposed. the graphic on the back of his jumpsuit practically looks like a target... ]

there's an intense flash of light and a surge of energy as a laser beam blasts forth from the gun, burning through anything in its path.
for the next few moments, kiruko stands still, gun still in hand... until one of the other monsters takes a swing with a club. there's a heavy thwack, and kiruko is thrown across the room like a ragdoll. ]
[ this boon sucks! no just kidding she doesn't even really get magic and things like that. any help is good help. instead she is briefly distracted because what the fuck kind of gun is THAT?? A LASER GUN?????
with maru attacking miyako and kiruko shooting in that direction, maybe that's covered for now. miyu is feeling uncharacteristically tired here, actually, so she lets herself fall back against a pillar to stay upright. then she fires the rocket launcher twice - first towards the thinning mob enemies. and then in front of silco, trying to limit his movement without risking hitting. whoever this powder person is that vi seems to care about. ]
[ he hates this. while it isn't really his brother, king is still like his best friend among his siblings. nine is recoiling a bit with every pained sound and expression this king is making as he continues to bring back his fist to slam into it, breaking it further and further. there's blood over his fists from all the skull shards which is probably making this nice and slippery. ]
[ The kirubeam is fired, and it burns in a straight path right through Maru's back and straight into Miyako's front. It's a torrential downpour of blood and viscera splashing back on the closest members. Probably Miyu and Kiruko, actually. Yuck... Kiruko goes flying and Miyu's slouching, but her rocket launcher sends a missile straight into a horde of monsters, sending up another blast of magma. The missile heading toward Silco almost seems to slow down though, moving at a decelerated rate.
Nine's losing his grip, and the face of the hydra flickers from monster to friend, and it bites down one last time to lock around his hand before the skull shudders and shatters apart, disconnecting from the hydra's next. The blood might make it hard to remove, but you have to try, don't you?
And then... the girl pauses, looking at Vi for a moment. She looks at the hand, and then at the girl, and she shrugs. ]
"Still don’t get huh, sis? I’m always with you. Even when we’re worlds apart... too bad you won't ever see mine."
[ Violet does in fact know her sister. She knows there's a bomb, and unfortunately she knows her brand. The rattling of the chains increases, and from the back of the room they will all see a dark hooded figure, a scythe in hand and chains dragging behind.
Death comes for us all...
The ticking and the rattling grow louder and louder. Death seems to be watching, and as the monkey's cymbals begins to clap at a rapid pace.... ]
"Pow."
[ BOOM.
The explosion rattles the whole room, and the walls tumble down around them. Rocks and glass and green fire, all of it surrounds you as the hydras suddenly retreat, taking Jinx and Silco with them. Two more heads pick up what remains of Maru and Miyako, clamped in their teeth as they disappear through the walls. You soon realize why as you hear the sound of crackling over the dull ringing in your ears.
The floor suddenly gives way, and you fall. Deep, down down down into the abyss, tumbling through the darkness with no control for speed or your own consciousness. Perhaps you should have taken those warnings seriously. Escape is just a dream, isn't it? Why would you want to leave anyway? Is revenge really so important? You can make new friends here, why do you need to see the old ones? With enough time, you won't even think about your unanswered questions.
These are things you can think about later though... you plunge straight into a thick, red pool and sink straight to the bottom.

[ Violet does in fact know her sister. She knows there's a bomb, and unfortunately she knows her brand. The rattling of the chains increases, and from the back of the room they will all see a dark hooded figure, a scythe in hand and chains dragging behind.
Death comes for us all...
The ticking and the rattling grow louder and louder. Death seems to be watching, and as the monkey's cymbals begins to clap at a rapid pace.... ]
"Pow."
[ BOOM.
The explosion rattles the whole room, and the walls tumble down around them. Rocks and glass and green fire, all of it surrounds you as the hydras suddenly retreat, taking Jinx and Silco with them. Two more heads pick up what remains of Maru and Miyako, clamped in their teeth as they disappear through the walls. You soon realize why as you hear the sound of crackling over the dull ringing in your ears.
The floor suddenly gives way, and you fall. Deep, down down down into the abyss, tumbling through the darkness with no control for speed or your own consciousness. Perhaps you should have taken those warnings seriously. Escape is just a dream, isn't it? Why would you want to leave anyway? Is revenge really so important? You can make new friends here, why do you need to see the old ones? With enough time, you won't even think about your unanswered questions.
These are things you can think about later though... you plunge straight into a thick, red pool and sink straight to the bottom.
